Drawing Etc. Art Supplies & Creative Space is proud to present "Printmakers Network," an exhibition celebrating the rich tapestry of printmaking in Singapore. Printmakers Network brings together a diverse group of artists, representing all disciplines of printmaking in Singapore, stretching different genres. We are thrilled to feature seasoned fine artists such as April Ng, Chua Chon Hee, and the late Chng Seok Tin, whose work will be on special loan from a consignee. This exhibition also introduces the fresh perspectives of rising talents like Nathan Tan, Lim Jia Qi, and Zhang Fuming. Additionally, we highlight artists whose contributions from institutions and independent studios are dedicated to the art of printmaking. This includes the artistry of Dahlia Osman, a seasoned educator, Grace Angel and Yang Xiu Ting who works in STPI, Chen Shitong from Pulp Editions, How to Ink, Yao Yu from TYPESETTINGSG, Joseph Chiang from Monster Gallery, Jeffery Ang from Artefakts, as well as emerging printmakers and artists Emma Chong, Pearl Tang, Finbarr Fallon, and Priscilla Chan.
Reviewed by Dr. Wang Ruobing and venue sponsored by INSTINC Space, “In-Site” is a duo exhibition proposed by the combined artistic vision of ceramicist Hans Chew and printmaker Nathan Tan, winners of the 2024 INSTINC20 Exhibition Open Call. Brought together by their common beat to interrogate the coexistence of nature and the man-made. This exhibition celebrates the individual and collaborative visions of both artists in honour of their personal artistic journeys with their respective mediums—ceramics and printmaking. At its core, "In-Site" represents a bold declaration and reflection by the artists. To redefine the artistic and technical boundaries in their own practices of ceramics and printmaking. This exhibition explores the intersection of forms, textures, and visual narrative through Hans Chew's industrial-inspired ceramic that blends industrial aesthetics with handmade intricacy, reflecting on the urban-natural relationships and Nathan Tan's evocative prints that offer glimpses of untouched but disturbed natural landscapes, inviting contemplation on human impact and nature’s resilience. Journey through contrasting realms in this curated exploration, where art, nature, and human creativity converge. "In-Site" invites you to delve into a transformative dialogue on our shared footprint within the natural world.
Imagining New Futures is a collaboration between the Fine Art Programme at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Amsterdam-based multimedia artist Margret Wibmer which contemplates the social, cultural, and political shifts as well as the deep uncertainty that shrouds the current pandemic. Presented in this showcase are 10 selected projects by second year students from the Diploma in Fine Art that are diverse in form and expression, but more importantly, shed light on their individual preoccupations and collective concerns, whilst looking towards new futures.
FEEDfragileBACK (pronounced Feedback Fragile) encompasses at once both the tense, evolving relationships that characterise the residents of Singapore’s waterways, and the fragility of the relationships that hold them together — ranging from one’s apathy to their pets, leading owners towards careless releases; to society-wide neglect of trash, leading to careless littering into waterways. These actions lead to and cause runaway processes — feedback loops of negligence that mutate originally natural behaviours of feeding into destructive forces, altogther accelerating pressures on already fragile environments. At the same time, with this lack of awareness, feedback — in its form as reaction — is what Nathan seeks to extract from viewers on these hidden realities, as they gain new perspectives from FEEDfragileBACK’s multiple narrators. In a meta turn, Nathan’s own medium of printmaking — Itself an artform with inevitable imperfections during transfer — serves as apt metaphor for these fragilities, as he examines them with subtle blue-on-blue explorations. Finally, the exhibition’s disjointed title reflects the absurdity inherent in these situations: just like the randomness of the objects Nathan first found downstream. The exhibition hopes to illuminate visitors to new possibilities in printmaking as an art form, as well as inform the public on the importance of environmental awareness and responsibility, as the variety of FEEDfragileBACK’s works illustrates urgent realities hidden in plain sight.
Straits Gallery cordially invites you to our upcoming group exhibition – Beyond the Boundary. The exhibition features 15 artists: Alvin Tang, Grace Angel, Heffrence Teow, Jaxton Su, Jacintha Chan, Li Wange, Lee Cai Jun, Myrthe Biesheuvel, Muhammad Zulfadly Bin Abdul Manap, Nathan Tan, Olga Sho, Ooi Si Lin, Silas Oo, Soon Xiao Qi and Siew Guang Hong. In this exhibition, young artists explore a variety of themes and fields: of reality versus virtual, nature versus city, solitude versus relaxation, man versus beast, and much more. The artists all have a unique approach, different from one another; using a variety of methodologies as a vehicle to best express their emotions, ideas, and concepts, they offer a plethora of possibilities for finding the space between the individual's internal state and the external world.
