During the Covid lockdown Rebecca was caught in Italy for 2 years. In the countryside in Piemonte, she started a project of painting a pattern a day in order to make the time pass during this period of isolation. Lockdown in Italy began on March 8th 2020. Rebecca started her project on March 22nd & continued, completing her 100th painting, on 30th June. After 100 days, she had 100 patterns. Her intention at the beginning was to build a portfolio of pattern work in order to present at a licensing fair for surface designers in New York. She says it also made the days pass quickly & kept her positive through a difficult time. Lockdown went on for a lot longer than anticipated & Rebecca continued painting each day throughout her time there, creating a varied & much larger portfolio of work. This body of ‘100 patterns in 100 days’ became the starting point for a collaboration with the Swiss luxury furnishing fabric house Christian Fischbacher. In January 2023, the capsule collection “100 Patterns in 100 Days’ by Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson for Christian Fischbacher was launched at Paris Deco Off in Paris. The fine art prints available here are from the original 100 paintings made during the lockdown period in Italy. They are identified by the sequence number on which day they were produced. The Archival quality prints are available in 2 sizes with a limited edition of 10 prints per design per size. Printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching Paper 310gsm. Inkjet printed using Canon pigment. Rebecca’s signature is embossed at the base of each print & each print is numbered in pencil. Each print comes with a certificate of authentication.
Rebecca Duckett- Wilkinson is a Malaysian artist working between her studios in Penang, Malaysia & Piemonte, Italy. She grew up on Malaysian plantations, near the tropical jungles that now inspire her work. Her early schooling was done in Malaysia. She completed ‘A levels’ in Dorset, UK, & then went on to Parsons School of Design, New York. At Parsons she pursued her first love for textiles, weaving & surface design. After graduation she returned to Malaysia, her home country, to work as an artist & designer. Rebecca is well known in Malaysia for her printed designs on resort wear. Founded with her husband, Owen David Wilkinson, the mid 1980’s, “Owen Rebecca Designs”, celebrated Malaysia’s culture, heritage, flora & fauna with hand silk screened prints on T-shirts & a range of resort & children’s wear. Currently working as a full time artist her themes revolve around natural history, women & botany, as well as her colourful pattern based artwork & illustration. Rebecca works predominantly on paper using gouache & watercolour. In 2022, Rebecca completed a set of illustrations for the lovely food memoir & cookbook by Manju Saigal & written by Bettina Chua. In 2023 Rebecca has collaborated with the luxury furnishing fabric house ‘Christian Fischbacher’ on a capsule collection entitled ‘100 Patterns in 100 Days’. This collection was launched in January 2023 at the ‘Paris Deco Off’. Art is an integral part of Rebecca’s lifestyle. She ‘lives’ her art. Rebecca & her husband also work together on their personal very bespoke projects; ‘Tiger Rock’, a jungle hideaway in Malaysia & ‘Tiger Blue’, a phinisi dive liveaboard in Indonesia. Nature is Rebecca’s inspiration & it is here, in these locations, & with their home in Piemonte, Italy, that her art comes to life.
